The Coordinating Center works hard in the community to speak for the people we serve, and to involve staff members and clients in opportunities to improve services and foster full community integration of people with special needs.
Much of what we are able to do comes from our contributors and organizations that provide grant funding for small but effective programs. For example, coordinators have developed a database of specialized services and contacts to assist families who come to The Center with a variety of requests for information. Staff members also tap into available resource data bases – local and national – to guide people to the information that they need.
Visiting parent information nights and sessions on transitioning young people are important activities for coordinators. Because The Coordinating Center’s care coordinators are assigned to work with families and individuals based on geography, our staff members have a working knowledge of local resources, local contacts, and unique cultural perspectives in each area.
